Thermal stability in a gear oil is critical to help maximize both the life of the oil and the components of the gearbox. Products formulated with Lubrizol 5060 help to minimize the formation of sludge due to the high level of oxidative and thermal stability derived from the carefully selected and balanced chemistry within the additive package. Why is DEMULSIBILITY important for Industrial Gear Oil Additives?
Demulsibility is important because water in a gearbox can lead to rust, corrosion and a decrease in overall performance. Gear oil temperatures in a manufacturing shop were found to be operating between 45º and 50ºC. Gearboxes in other applications may operate at much higher temperatures. Lubrizol 5060 has been designed to separate water quickly at both the higher and lower temperatures found in gearboxes in different manufacturing environments.

Gears can be heavily loaded and require high levels of extreme pressure performance to protect system components. Typical gear oils do not always demonstrate the required levels of extreme pressure performance at lower viscosity grades. Formulations containing Lubrizol 5060 offer excellent extreme pressure performance across the full spectrum of viscosity grades, even lower viscosity grades have high levels of performance without the need for additional up-treating or boosters. High pressure performance across all viscosities (ISO 68-460) may allow for the use of a lower viscosity grades in some applications thus increasing efficiency and saving money.

Lubrizol 5060 is a dedicated premium industrial gear oil additive package designed to treat at 1.8% by weight and is suitable for Group I, II and III base stocks as well as PAO’s. Higher viscosity grades can be formulated with standard bright stocks or with Lubrizol®3130A, a synthetic thickener, for even greater cleanliness. Finished lubricants when formulated with Lubrizol 5060 are able to meet the following requirements:
